Spiritual leadership survey: Turkish language, reliability & validity analysis

This thesis is based on the adaptation of the Spiritual Leadership Survey, which was originally developed by Fry in 2007, into Turkish. The study was carried out in ten (10) of phases: Translation of the questionnaire into Turkish. The studies for the language equivalency, trustworthiness and validity of the Turkish form have already been carried out. During the translation process, the original copy has been translated by questionnaire experts. These translations have been studied and a temporary Turkish form has been prepared. This Turkish form has been translated into English by an expert with a PhD in English Language by using the reverse translation method. Having worked on these forms, each item was reconsidered and evaluated, in the end, the Turkish form was formed. It was observed that the items in the Turkish form and the ones in the original questionnaire were apprehensible in both cultures. Thus, since 40 items of the questionnaire will match the Turkish Culture, all the items of it were used in the Turkish form as they are. The Turkish translation of the form was checked by experts in Turkish Language. The Turkish questionnaire was given its final form by considering the data and suggestions and after this stage, in order to check their equivalency between the Turkish questionnaire and the original one, the Turkish and the English forms were given to 37 students who were studying in senior class at the Department of English Teaching, Faculty of Education of a university with an interval of three weeks between each. Significant results were found in terms of language equivalency as a result of matching group t test. With respect to reliability, in order to establish internal consistency, the scale was given to 573 educators working at different educational institutions in the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. Pearson multiplication moment correlation analysis and independent group t tests were applied at this stage. The data received were analyzed on the computer using ?SPSS for Windows ver. 13.0? and the result found was .05 significantly meaningful. Other significantly meaningful results were separately shown and for the purposes of this study, the findings were displayed using tables. The analysis carried out proved that the questionnaire has the language equivalency, is valid and trustworthy and can be used for Turkish conditions.Key WordsLeadership, spiritual leadership, spiritual leadership survey.
