The historiography of Sadri Maksudi Arsal

Sadri Maksudi Arsal is a versatile scientist who has contributed significantly to the Turkish science world. Sadri Maksudi fundamentally has studied on the law,language,history and earned an important place in the Turkish science world. It would be seen at once that the science of History has an important position and long-standing background in his life.Sadri Maksudi's first academical article is on the History subject as well as his first academical experience.Sadri Maksudi was little-known with his political identity in Turkey then. His acknowledge in the Turkish public opinion as a scientist has been with his Historian identity.He came to Turkey as professor of Turkic history of Sorbonne University, lectured here and eventually met Atatürk and invited to stay in Turkey.He performed most of his studies regarding history in Turkey.He didn't just perform his historical studies in Turkey , but he took an active role on the institutionalization of Turkish Historical studies at the same time.In this study, we firstly have determined the important milstones of Sadri Maksudi's historianship, explained about the substance and his distinctive traits. Subsequently we analyzed Arsal's first historical studies in Turkey, his activities in the Turkish Historical Congresses, his contribution to the Turkish Historical Thesis' studies, his role in foundation of the Committee of the Research of the Turkish History within the Turkish Hearth Society , debates he had on history , and the relationship between his historianship & lawyership.and lastly explained about his historianship's elements.
