Abstract (EN)
This study aims to investigate the expenses of Antibiotherapy healthcare-associated infections (HAI). HAI still maintains its importance as a global public health problem that has bring out serious consequences for health systems, especially with the emergence of the problem of resistance to antibiotics. This descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was conducted in line with information obtained from 312 patient records in a state hospital. The mean age of the patients was found to be 73±16 years. A total of 18 804 patients incurred ₺ 981 627.48 antibiotic therapy expenses on the day of hospitalization. Anesthesia Intensive Care Clinic was the clinic with the highest antibiotic therapy expenses with ₺ 704 637.27 (min: 6.05; max: 59 210.38). A statistically significant difference was found between the total antibiotic therapy expenses according to the number of risk factors of the patients. As the number of risk factors increased, the median values of expenses also increased. There was no statistically significant difference between the median values of total antibiotherapy expenses and to the number of infectious microorganisms. Among the types of antibiotics, Piperacillin-Tazobactam was used the most with 186 uses. The median value of piperacillin-tazobactam expense was ₺ 572.41 (min: 16.17; max: 5 444.37) When infection groups are evaluated, the highest number of cases is a ventilator-related event (n=137). A better understanding of the economic burden of antibiotherapy expenses in HAI and the factors affecting this burden will guide the better management of resources, prevention and control of infections.
