Abstract (EN)

Emotional eating is the tendency to eat in response to emotions. The fundamental concepts of emotional eating, its possible mechanisms, and developments in research in this area require the development of psychometric scales. The Salzburg Emotional Eating Scale (SEES) is important in that it includes positive and negative emotions, as well as indicating the change in the amount of eating. The thesis study aims to establish the Turkish validity and reliability of SEES. The sample of the study consisted of participants who were Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University students, academicians and administrative staff. The language and content validity score of the scale (content validity index score) is > 0.83. The scale has four subscales as a result of explanatory factor analysis. The four subscales of the scale explain 79,06 % of the total variance. The factor loads of the scale items ranged from 0.393 to 0.931. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis Bootstrap method, it is seen that χ2/sd, CFI, RMSEA values are respectively 2,468; 0,967; 0,074. The CFI value of 0.96 indicates that this model represents a marginally good-fit model. Cronbach α and McDonald's Omega internal consistency coefficients are between 0,913 and 0,943. The correlation coefficients obtained for the subscales in the invariance analysis have been between 0,490 and 0,825. In parallel form analysis, a significant correlation is found between the sadness, anger, anxiety subscales of SEES and DEBQ emotional eating subscale. The results of the analysis proved that SEES is a valid and reliable scale compatible with Turkish. Keywords: Emotional Eating, SEES, Validity, Reliability
