Abstract (EN)
In this study, Raphignathoid mites (Raphignathoidea) were identified in hazelnut cultivation areas located in the Ondokuzmayıs district of Samsun Province. Additionally, a literature review was conducted on previously recorded entomophagous tetrapods in the region. For the identification of Raphignathoid mites, soil, litter, and weed samples were collected twice monthly over a one-year period between February 2024 and January 2025. The collected samples were labeled and transported to the laboratory in plastic bags. Mites present in the samples were extracted using a Berlese funnel apparatus. The extracted specimens were then identified and counted under a stereomicroscope. A total of 227 individuals belonging to the superfamily Raphignathoidea were obtained from the sampling area. When examined at the family level, the distribution was determined as follows: 58% Stigmaeidae, 20% Raphignathidae, 16% Cryptognathidae, and 6% Caligonellidae. The highest number of Raphignathoid mites, with 121 individuals, was recorded during the summer months. This study also aims to contribute to the characterization of the Raphignathoid mite fauna in Turkey. Given that the majority of Raphignathoid mites exhibit predatory, phytophagous, or symbiotic feeding behaviors—and that some act as parasites on pest species—this group, along with other entomophagous tetrapods, is considered to hold significant potential for use in biological control programs.
