Abstract (EN)

In this study performed during 2017 and 2018, the native almond populations of Hilvan, Bozova, Suruç and districts of Şanlıurfa province of Turkey were studied to determine promising chance seedlings. Tree and fruit characteristics of seedling almond trees were identified for 102 genotypes in the first year and 43 genotypes in the second year with respect to almond cultivar breeding objectives. In conclusion, 21 genotype were determined promising according to weighted rating method. 2017 and 2018 flowering dates of these promising genotypes are March 10-27 and February 22 March 20, respectively. Shell weight of promising genotypes changed between 2.51 g and 5.31 g. Kernel weight of selected 21 promising almonds changed between 0.56-1.48 g, kernel rate between % 13.75) - 54.54, skin thickness 2.52-3.48 mm, double kernel rate between % 0, twin kernel rate was % and safe kernel rate between % 60.0-100.00 In terms of fruit shape 1 of the genotypes were ellipse, another 18 genotypes were long and oval and the rest 2 genotypes were heart-shaped. Although 6 of the promising genotypes were determined large, 3 genotypes medium 5 genotypes were small, and 7 genotypes were determined very large, all of them placed in sweet almond category. The kernel colour was determined light colored of one genotype, medium light colored of 7 genotypes dark of 11 genotypes and very dark of 2 genotypes. Tree shape was determined broad in 4 genotypes and vertical-broad in 11 genotypes while vertical in 6 genotypes. Key words: Almond, Fruit properties, Genotype, Selection, Şanlıurfa.
