Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master of Thesis THE EFFECT OF OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT SUPPLEMENTATION ON LIPID PROPHILE, GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND SOME HORMONE LEVELS OF BROILER UNDER HEAT-STRESS Bülent ERELİ Çankırı Karatekin Üniversity Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Chemistry Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Tünay KONTAŞ AŞKAR Due to the negative effects of heat stress in broilers losts in performance and collective deaths can be seen. To prevent negative effects of heat stress useage of several probiotics, prebiotics and plants extracts with some antimicrobial and antioxidant effects is increasing. In this study we investigated the effect of olive leaf extract on growing performance, lipid profile and some hormone levels in broilers under experimental heat stress. 60 broilers chicks 3 days old age were used in this study as animal material. Broilers werefed under normal conditions fort he firsth 3 weeks At the end of this period, broilers were seperated into 4 groups (control, heat stress, heat stress+100 ppm olive leaf extract and heat stress+200 ppm olive leaf extract) and the room temperature was stabled at 30-35 C for the formation of experimental heat stress. So that 100 ppm/kg and 200 ppm/kg olive leaf extracts were added to the drinking waters of broilers under heat stress. In this study although LDL, ALT, AST, T3, cortisol and HSP70 were found to be higher in heat stress group than the control group, serum cholesterol, TG, apelin and T4 levels were found lower in heat stress+200 ppm/kg olive leaf extract group LDL, ALT, AST, T3, cortisol and HSP70 were found to be lower than the heat stress group. Also apelin, T4, cholesterol and TG were found to be higher in heat stress+200 ppm olive leaf extract group than the heat stress group. According to the result of this study, it is thought that the olive leaf extract addition to broiler's drinking water, has positive effect on the hormone levels of broilers under heat stress and changed the lipid profile. Therefore in future the use of olive leaf extract may be useful against the adwerse effects of heat stress on broilers.
