Abstract (EN)

In this study investigation of the curative and protective effects of Celtis tournefortii (hackberry) against liver injury by CCl4 was aimed. 32 Wistar-Albino male rats weighing 150-220g were used in the experiment. Rats were divided into 4 groups: control, CCI4, CCI4+Ct ve Ct. At the end of the 28-day experiment, the hepatopreventive effect and antioxidant role of hackberry leaf supplementation feed were assessed by measuring level of serum liver damage enzymes, aspartame aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), antioxidant defense systems, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT) and reduced glutathione (GSH), total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in the liver tissues of rats. According to the findings of the study, while the levels of AST, ALT, ALP and LDH increased in carbon tetrachloride group, they were decreased in CCI4+Ct group. Also, while the value of MDA, TOS and OSI contents increased in the CCI4 group, they decreased in the liver tissue of the CCI4+Ct group. Value of SOD, GPx, KAT, GSH and TAS contents decreased in the CCI4 group, they increased in the liver tissue of the CCI4+Ct group. Moreover, decreases and increases occur in the system of antioxidant enzyme defense because of the liver hepatopreventive effect and antioxidant role in hackberry leaf + carbon tetrachloride group in comparison to those of carbon tetrachloride.
