Abstract (EN)

Tissue regeneration is a complex process. Most importantly, an overreactive oxygen derivative (ROS) is produced as a result of inflammation or infection. Spirulina platensis is a cyanobacterium species that is very important in terms of high amount of protein, B12, pigments and GLA (gamma linolenic acid). Spirulina (blue-green algae) with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities has been used to relieve ROS stress and its effect on total oxidant, antioxidant and paraoxonase levels. Studies have reported that spirulina is effective against free radicals and reactive oxygen species. In this study, the effect of spirulina extract use on total oxidant, total antioxidant and paraoxonase levels was investigated in the colitis model created with acetic acid. For this purpose, the duration of the study was determined as 10 days. Rats were divided into control group, colitis group and spirulina + colitis group. Spirulina prepared at 2g/kg concentrations was given to the spirulina + colitis group by applying oral gavage. After the rats were sacrificed on the 10th day, serum total antioxidant, total oxidant and paraoxonase levels were calculated as a result of intracardiac serum samples ELISA test. There was a significant difference in total antioxidant and OSI (index) values. When the colitis and spirulina + colitis groups are compared, Spirulina + colitis total antioxidant values were found to be higher than the colitis group values. (P <0.05). When the index (OSI) value was examined, the average of colitis group was found to be statistically significantly higher than the other group averages (P <0.001). As a result of this study; In acetic acid-induced colitis, spirulina shows that it may have a protective effect by increasing antioxidant capacity.
