Analysis of ideas about the Quran and tafseer in Sebîlürreşâd journal

The transition period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey is a period in which the Islamic world experienced serious problems and at the same time intellectual movements that caused social changes and transformations occured. Sebilurreshad Journal is one of the important figures of these intellectual movements. According to Sebilurreshad, who tries to contribute to the unity and independence of the Islamic world, to support its revival and resistance to imperialism, the understanding of the Quran is at the center of the search for a solution. Sebilurreshad's way of defining the Quran is parallel to the understanding of Ahl al-Sunnah. The Quran is a divine book, no one but Allah can attempt to change it. It has not been falsified, cannot be falsified, it is under Divine protection. It was sent down for all humanity to follow and organize their lives according to it. It is an Arabic book. In the interpretation of the Quran, it is aimed to find answers to current needs and to fight against the modern secular paradigm that tries to dominate the world. For this purpose, sometimes tradition and sometimes scientific data are used. Rational reasoning method is also applied frequently. Sebilurreshad is very sensitive and meticulous about translation of the Quran. No translation should replace it. It can be translated so that Muslims from other nations can understand it, but this must be done by a qualified, competent committee that is away from worldly interests. On the other hand Sebilurreshad is wary of tradition. Because it contains many superstitions and useless things. Sebilurreshad behaves selectively while referring to traditional sources about interpretation/tafseer of the Quran. It does not hesitate to use modern methods and tools in tafseer. However, it does not adopt the relationship that modernism establishes between religion and the worldly life. For this reason, it can be said that it has a unique place between modernism and tradition.
