Structure and theme in selahattin Yusuf's novels

Narratives, which have emerged as one of the oldest traditions in human history, are not merely a means of conveying individual experiences; they also reflect the collective memory of societies, their evolving values and judgments from past to present, as well as various social and political phenomena. The novels of Selahattin Yusuf are structured around fundamental emotions such as loneliness, alienation, and the search for identity in the modern world. The author presents the inner conflicts and existential crises of his characters with profound depth and narrative richness. The characters in Yusuf's works are often portrayed as being trapped between the burdens of the past and the uncertainties of the future. Selahattin Yusuf is a significant figure who has contributed to the literary world across various genres. Actively engaged in writing since his university years, Yusuf has authored novels, short stories, essays, and critical analyses. In this study titled "Structure and Theme in the Novels of Selahattin Yusuf", four of his novels are examined using a qualitative research method. The study is composed of three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of Selahattin Yusuf's life, literary personality, and works. It offers general insights into the individual and social elements that have influenced his literary journey, as well as a framework outlining his literary approach and stylistic tendencies. The second chapter, titled Structure in the Novels of Selahattin Yusuf, analyzes the relationship between title and content, plot structure, narrative perspective, time, setting, and characters. The third chapter, Themes in the Novels of Selahattin Yusuf, focuses on recurring motifs such as loneliness, lovelessness, and escape. These themes, constructed around the individual's experience of isolation and emotional deprivation, reflect the modern human's struggle for belonging and identity.
