Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the technical, formal, and artistic aspects of Islamic ceramics from the Sanandaj Museum collection, located in the city of Sanandaj (Sanandej), a cultural center of the historical Kurdistan region in western Iran, spanning the 10th to the 14th centuries. The period under study represents a period in which ceramic production in Islamic art diversified both technically and aesthetically. The works in the museum collection include objects of diverse forms and functions, such as bowls, plates, pitchers, ewers, jugs, rhytons, lamps, and small figurines. These objects utilize techniques such as turquoise glaze, luster, minâî (multicolored underglaze decoration), openwork (holework), barbotine (relief), and incision. The decorative repertoire includes geometric and floral motifs, stylized animal and human figures, and inscriptions in Kufic and Naskh script, creating a rich visual language reflecting the aesthetic values of the period. Each work in the study was evaluated in detail in terms of its technical features, formal structure, iconographic content, and context of use. Stylistic analyses reveal the characteristic aspects of regional art through the similarities and unique differences between these ceramics and contemporary production centers. The catalog section of the study includes detailed descriptions of the selected works, along with inventory information, drawings, and photographs. In conclusion, the 10th-14th century Islamic ceramics preserved in the Sanandaj Museum are important evidence that original and high-quality productions were made outside of major art centers. These works demonstrate that Islamic art was performed at a high aesthetic and technical level even in regions that could be considered provincial, and they contribute to understanding the areas of interaction between local identity and the shared artistic language of the Islamic World.
