According to sharia court registers the family in the first half of the 19th century, in Çankiri

Çankırı is a typical Central Anatolian province, on the north of Central Anatolia. According to the records of the sharia court registers, it is tried to understood that, the legal, social and economic structures of the families, who lived in Çankırı, in the first half of the 19th Century. It is the fact that, the deep structural and social changes experienced during this period of the Ottoman Empire. The purpose of this study, based on the example of Çankırı, understanding the structure of Ottoman ordinary families and therefore the society, in this period.The court registers which are used as a source in this study, are the records of sharia judges nâmed kadi. 18, 21, 22, 23, 25 and 26 numbered books of Çankırı Sheria courts are the basics of the study. Especially in the area of ?Ilam? and ?tereke? (probate records) in the books are examined.On the light of the documents, the legal relationships of families, livelihoods and basic social and economic structure in Çankırı, during the first half of the 19th. century, constitute the content of the study. As a conclusion it is understood that, the rapid changes, occurring in the management and elite part of the Empire didn?t show itself in Anatolian families.
