Abstract (EN)

Armor systems, which are used in military vehicles, are very important in modern warfare. The rapid movement of the armies on the battlefield in a motorized manner is crucial in terms of reinforcing the front. Especially, Armored Personnel Carriers (APC), which are used for carrying the soldiers to the battlefield, have to act rapidly and protect soldiers from enemy fire. While protecting the troops from enemy fire, the armor used in APCs should not reduce vehicles mobility. Therefore, armor systems are constantly being improved. This thesis covers obtaining armor packages with Stanag 4569 Level-2 protection level that can be used in armored personnel carrier vehicles by means of different material layers, different layer sequences for the lowest areal density. Meanwhile, experimental results were verified by means of analytical models developed for different materials. In this study, the effect of number of layers, layer material and layer arrangement on the areal density were investigated analytically and experimentally. At the end of this study, among the alternative armor packages, which are examined, the lowest areal density and the highest ballistic protection was determined. In addition, the best analytical model that converges to experimental results was determined.
