Abstract (EN)
PQUWTAWS AND WATER DISPLAYS W CERMUCS ART SUMMARY The man, during his history, lives together with nature, however he creates an environment different rontment. The man finds out the available water springs ali around the world, lives in those places and establishes civilizations. He destroys the old civilization and comes up with the new ones. His sole aim, in all this process, is to get the natural, artificial and social environment, closer to himself. In the residental locations which he created as an artificial environment, fountains and water constructions are used to meet his basic needs. They constitute the part of the products which the man brings about as a result of his efforts.. A fountain is a common name used for the constructions established for the purpose of meeting the needs of drinking, cleaning and others by using the water which is obtained either naturally or through a general water providing system. Fountains are named according to their places and usage aims. The importance of urban common spaces in terms of social life and usage, gets the urban factors, fountains and water displays to be equally. Functionally fountains and water displays meet the water need of the man, are relaxing and refreshing, and they contribute to thevl civilized picture of the cities. They, therefore, from the social expioitaian point view, are noticeable with their visual, artistic and cultural dimensions rather than their physical functions. Marble, stone, brick, concrete and metal have been used to make fountains and water displays. Today, polyester and plastic materials are preferred. The researches conducted show that, the use of ceramics is very minimum. What is the reason for that and is it possible to change this situation? In other words, can ceramics take place in fountains and water displays? Where and how? This study is conducted on the question and approaches briefly mentioned above, the research and the applications were focused in that way. For that reason, in order to have a better understanding of fountain, water display phenomenon basic physical and chemical characteristics of water, it's importance for health and society, the value of water in Turkish social life, the constructions related to fountains and water displays in our country and the fountain and water displays in some foreign civilizations and countries have been mentioned. The materials used in the construction of fountains and water displays, mixing ceramics into those materials and - according to this result - the findings and applications obtained have, also, taken place in this study. When ceramics is involved in fountains and water displays, apart from its appropriateness in functional terms, when compared to the others made from other materials, they'll appeal to the city people more and, thus our citiesll have more esthetic scenes for the people.
