Ijma (Consensus)understanding of Seyfuddin al Âmîdî

Âmîdî lived in seventh century Hegira. He is one of the most prominet scholars with his work especially in the fields of Kelam, usûl-i Fiqh ( Method of jurisprudence) and philosophy. In this study, as it is parallel with our topic, we tried to investigate the life of Âmîdî,his work, the views of other scholars about ijma understanding, its assessment and analysis. While revealing Âmidî's thoughts on ijma, we touched on the issues that other jurists agreed or disagreed with on ijma, especially the ideas that were unique to him, the examples he showed in the field of ijma, and the issues related to fiqh and ijma on certain issues. Since there is no study in this field, we chose Âmidî's understanding of ijma for our research. We tried to contribute to the field though it is very little. In this study, we achieved great deal of the opportunity to know the works of Âmidî. Indeed, Âmidî has made a name for himself in different branches as well as leaving many works. This thesis is planned in three parts. In the first chapter, information is given about Seyfüddîn el-Âmidî's life, scientific personality and works. In the second part, the understanding of ijma of Seyfüddîn al-Âmiddî and scholars is defined. In the third chapter, Âmidî's understanding of ijma, which constitutes our main subject, is discussed.
