Abstract (EN)

Hadiths are the most important source after the Quran. The history of the hadith has reached the present day starting from the time of the Prophet (pbuh). Muslims naturally took the flag off the success of the science of hadith through various periods. In the XVIII century, (h.XIII) hadith science was at the centre of orientalism activities. Orientalists made studies and produced works on many subjects such as the Prophet, the Companions, and hadith sources with the perspective of hadith. Our research encompasses the birth and development of orientalism in the process that started with Ignaz Goldziher (d.1921) in the West and continued with Gualtherus Hendrik Albert Juynboll (d.2010) and the researches, approaches and methods of the orientalists in the field of hadith. In this respect, this study tries to reply the questions such as how the process started and how it has continued, and what is the quality of the works produced in terms of quantity and quality. In the thesis, the etymological nature of orientalism, its birth and its development in the process and Islamic understanding and orientation have been discussed. Subsequently, the history of the science of hadith was briefly discussed, and the allegations of the orientalists towards the science of hadith and the underlying factors were examined. Various books, theses, articles and internet media were reviewed in the study.
