Social life elements at the Şeyh Galib's Divanı

Şeyh Galib is one of the last period great poets of Classical Turkish poetry. He became one of the leading poets of his time and influenced both the poets of his time and the poets who came after him. His poems are the subject of rich research. Although there are many studies on his works, no independent study has been found about the social life elements in his poems. In this study, the social life elements and social culture elements in the poems of Şeyh Galib, who was the sheikh of the Galata Mevlevihane in his period, were tried to be determined. With the influence of the Sebk-i Hindi movement he adopted, he dealt with the elements of social life in his poems. Divan literature is known as a literature that is disconnected from life and a product of imagination. Contrary to popular belief, our study has been an example that Divan Literature carries traces of life and is a mirror held in daily life. At this point, the poet's divan contains rich topics in terms of seeing the traces of social life. These concepts identified in his divan were interpreted by giving examples from his poems. The study is based on the Divan of Sheikh Galib prepared by Naci Okçu. Our aim is to reveal that elements such as human types, idioms, behaviors, religion and belief, customs and traditions, music, entertainment, sports, games, furniture, architecture and clothing in the context of social life can be valuable resources and to provide a better understanding of the tradition of divan poetry. The findings in this study were examined under various headings and it has been came a conlusion that this work is important in terms of reflecting the social life of Ottoman in 18th century.
