Effect of the sectarian tendency of Seyyed Hossein Nasr's to his religious and political thoughts

Modernism faced a series of problem because divine message is replaced with modern thoughts in the period of modern philosophy. This issue directed people known as traditionalist to present opposite ideas and make criticism. One of the most important Muslim thinkers, Seyyed Hossein Nasr is placed himself in these critiques made for the modern world. Being one of the most important living thinkers of the school of traditionalism, Seyyed Hossein Nasr is a renowned Muslim thinker who spent most of his life with doing researches and giving lectures in both eastern and western regions. Due to the wide scope of his studies ranging from philosophy, science, and arts to metaphysics, he impressed many people in science environment. As a matter of fact, Nasr has many essays and books incorporating some of his essays in various fields. Nasr, who generally studies tradition, modernism, philosophy, science, and environmental problems in works, made an effort to strengthen the bond between the past and the future, gave answers to the destruction caused by the emergence of modernism from the Islamic perspective while considering the different aspects of the subjects. In the field, there is no work that studies the religion and politics with the understanding of Shia of Nasr, who contributed the maturation of the school traditionalist thoughts. In addition to that, clues of sectarian identity of Nasr are found in the works about criticism of modernism and these mentioned subjects should be clarified. In this study, the researcher seeks the different thoughts of Nasr rather than analyzing his traditionalist views concentrated around the terms of modernism and traditionalism. Within this context, Nasr's approaches towards the definition of basics of the understanding of Shia thought with the political and religious views maturated by the transition through the physics to metaphysics are studied in a way that allows criticism. In addition to that, the researcher aims to read and understand Nasr's work differently by approaching his works in a sophisticated manner. One of the biggest problems in the field of Social Sciences and especially in the field of History of Islamic Sects is the maintaining the objectivity. Therefore, the researcher shows utmost attention for the objectivity for understanding of Nasr's thoughts without showing sectarian bigotry. The researcher will study whether Nasr promotes his own sectarian identity in his works and his objectivity in his works while conveying Nasr's thoughts. The researcher also aims to contribute to the literature by clarifying his approach to terms such as religion and politics, his views regarding how Muslims should approach the terms religion and politics, his understanding of Shia and his objectivity of understanding of Shia.
