Sibicabi translation of Gulistan: Introduction-language analysis-text-translation-index-facsimile

In this study, the East Turkish translation of Sa?di?s work, Gülistan has been analysed. This translation done by Sibicabi in 800 A.H. (1397-1398) has been evaluated as one of the three translated versions of Gülistan in the historical Turkish dialects. The CD copy used in the study was obtained from the British Library and it was prepared by scanning the only handwritten manuscript which exists in the library with the number of Or 11685.The thesis consists of five main parts: the introduction, the language analysis, the text, the translation and the index.In the introduction, information on Sa?di and Gülistan has been given, the copy of the work which has been subject to the thesis has been introduced and some of the the writing features of this copy have been focused on. Moreover, in this part, the three translations of Gülistan in the North, East and West Turkish languages have been compared in some respects.In the language analysis part, the whole grammar of the work has been analysed; the language features of the manuscript and its similar features to the Khwarazm-Altınordu and Chagatay Turkish languages have been detected. Also, it has been tried to find out which period of the work belongs to with the help of the linguistic data. In this part for the discussions on some subjects, lots of sample words obtained from many Works in Khwarazm-Altınordu and Chagatay Turkish languages dating back to earlier periods have been used as evidence.In the text part, the copy has been transcribed. Some orthographic properties of the text, some evaluations about the text and necessary explanations are shown as annotation. The verses, traditions, sample texts from Arabic and Persian poems, stereotyped words in the text are shown in original spelling; translation and the meanings of the verses have been given as annotation.In the translation part, the text has been translated into Turkey Turkish. In this part, the pieces in verse in the original text have been translated with syllabic as in verse and kept the tail rhyme in the original text.In the index part, the grammatical index of the text has been prepared; different meanings of every word in different contexts of the text have been interpreted one by one. Beside, it has been diagnosed how many times the head of the items repeated and this has been written next to the related head of the item. Idioms, stereotyped words, compound words with specific meaning have been sensed; their meanings have been repeated under the head of the item cited in the related idioms and words. In addition to the grammatical index, the frequency index of the words in the text has been done. Besides, another index has been prepared according to the frequency of the verbs and the other words such as nouns, adjectives and adverbs in the text. The number of the word usage in both groups has been listed from top to down and the first 100 mostly used words have been given as examples.A sample of the original text taken from the British Library has been enclosed as facsimile.
