Breeders practices on some factors affecting yield in Siirtpistachio

This study was carried out to analyze the practices of pistachio growers in Siirt province on some factors affecting yield in Siirt variety. The main material of the study was the original data obtained from face-to-face surveys with the peanut growers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) residing in Siirt Province and Districts, constituted the primary data of our study. Due to reasons such as transportation, terrorist incidents, high number of breeders, the sample size formula was used instead of all breeders and the sample volume was determined as 103, based on a 90% confidence interval and 8% margin of error, and 103 breeders were interviewed. First of all, the breeders were divided into 4 groups in terms of land size, with the thought that the size of the land may be an effective factor in the decisions of the breeders regarding cultural transactions. In the first group, there are 1-15, in the second group 16-50, in the third group 51-100, in the 4th group there are the growers with a land of 101 decares or more. 38.83% of the breeders surveyed were in the first group, 93.21% were male, 37.86% were between 31-45 years old, 26.22% were high school graduates, 75.72% It has been revealed that he is a member of Siirt Peanut Producers Association. In addition, all the growers surveyed cultivate peanuts in an area of 8,862 decares in 182 plots, they obtain an average of 40.8 kg of product from a decare, 65.04% sell their products to the merchant for 44.20 TL per kilogram, 50.48% are in the planting. considering the distances of 6 * 6 meters between and above the row, 81.55% made fertilization, 87.37% pruned, 46.58% complained about the low peanut prices, 53.39% 55.91% of them said that training on irrigation should be given, and that they had medium level of knowledge about fertilization and pollination. As a result of our study, it has been observed that the majority of those who grow peanuts in Siirt have gradually abandoned the primitive methods inherited from their father and started to become conscious about pistachio cultivation. However, it has been found that some breeders have a very strict attitude towards innovations and are breeding with traditional methods. First of all, trainers on peanut cultivation should be provided to ensure that the growers learn and apply modern cultivation techniques. In addition to these, especially due to the high production inputs and high prices, grant supports or loan opportunities with low interest rates should be provided through public institutions.
