The effects of radicle pruning and under cutting applications on growth characteristics of walnut (Juglans regia) seeds after germinations from Siirt Pervari originated seeds

This study was carried out with the Siirt-Pervari originated seedlings in Altınova forest nursery of Elazığ Forest management directorate. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of radicle pruning on germinated seeds and under cutting on seedlings at seedbeds on seedling height, root collar diameter, primary and secondary root numbers and grade characteristics. In this scope; the first tested hypothesis is equal to H0: control (natural development), under cutting and radicle pruning applications yielded equal mean values in terms of seedling height, root collar diameter, primary and secondary root numbers and grade characteristics (μ1=μ2=μ3). The second tested hypothesis is not equal to H0: control (natural development), under cutting and radicle pruning applications differed at least in one character by means of seedling height, root collar diameter, primary and secondary root numbers and grade characteristics (μ1 ≠ μ2 ≠ μ3). According to the results of variance analysis; there was not any statistically significant difference (α = 0.05) between the application of under cutting and radicle pruning treatments in terms of seedling height, grade characteristics and primary root numbers. On the other hand, seedlings in the control group have higher height growth. Moreover, there was not any significance (α = 0.05) about seedling height growth and secondary root numbers among the application of under cutting, radicle pruning and control. Besides, the number of primary roots in the applications of radicle pruning and under cutting was three times higher than control group.
