Invesitigating of the effects of green fertilization and pirina compost applications on organic olive cultivation of the district of Silifke

This study was carried out on 8 years old Gemlik olive cultivars organically grown in olive orchards which are located in Kargıcak village of Silifke town of Mersin province between 2013-2014. The soils in the olive orchard have clay and lime position and have not any problem of salinity. The aim of this trial is to determine the effects of pirina compost and gren manure applications on the yield and fruit quality of olives, mineral nutrient contents of leaves and total oil of olives. In the trial; Compost (olive mill+straw), green manure (vetch), green manure (faba bean), green manure (feed peas), green manure (vetch+faba bean), green manure (vetch+feed peas), compost+green manure (vetch), compost+green manure (faba bean), compost+green manure (feed peas), compost+green manure (vetch+faba bean+feed peas), applications were applied. Vetch+faba bean application was determined as the best application in the terms of yield per plant. Fruit weight, seed weight, and %TSS (Total soluble solids content) were positively affeceted by compost and green manure applications. Compost and green manure applications increased the nitrogen, phosphorus and zinc contents of the leaves in 2013, compost and green manure applications generally, increased the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, copper and zinc content of the leaves in 2014. At the end of the trials, compost and green manure applications increased the yield, fruit quality and intake of plant nutrients in olive at the end of the second year.
