A research on Osmaniye in the context of cinema, folklore and space

Cultural memory began to be transmitted orally with the beginning of human history. With the invention of writing, culture continued to be transmitted from generation to generation, both orally and in writing. Since the end of the 20th century, cultural transfer has been realized through different channels with the technological developments. With the invention of cinema in 1895, cultural elements began to be conveyed visually on the white screen, in addition to words and writing. Continuing its rapid development, cinema became industrialized and turned into a mass media. Thus, the transfer of culture through cinema accelerated. Osmaniye is an important place for Turkish cinema. Although the films shot in the region were very popular in their own time, there are also cult ones among them. It is not a coincidence that Osmaniye was used as a setting in these films. The terrain, climate and cultural texture of the region are suitable for the films shot. In addition, Abdurrahman Keskiner, one of the important producers of Turkish cinema, being from Osmaniye and shooting many films in Osmaniye also affected the use of this region as a cinema venue. The fact that the cinema contains folkloric elements visually and audibly reflects the culture and lifestyle of the period when the film was shot. With this function of cinema, it has been seen that folklore products are frequently used in films shot in Osmaniye. In our study titled "A Research on Osmaniye in the Context of Cinema, Folklore and Space", the films shot in Osmaniye were determined. As a result of the determinations made, the folklore elements in the films were examined and tried to be evaluated.
