Abstract (EN)
Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) is common in our pastures. It is a plant used in alternative medical treatment because of its bioactive substances. It is a plant that carries out scientific studies on secondary metabolites in its structure. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to determine the effect of Plantain extract on rumen fluid fermentation and feed digestion in artificial rumen environment. In this study, performed in vitro in DaisyII incubator, rumen fluids of 3 male cattle slaughtered in slaughterhouse were used. In the incubator, rumen fluids contained in 4 jars were added with 0mg/l, 50mg/l, 100 and 150 Plantain extract. In each incubation jar, a total of 24 pouches were incubated as 7 pouches per each for barley, vetch and safflower and 3 attester. PH, ammonia, acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid measurements and nutrient analysis were performed for rumen liquids before and after 21 hours incubation and IVGS, IVKMS, IVOM and IVNDFS were determined. The amount of ammonia, acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid, which were measured as the doses of the Plantain extract added to the rumen fluid, increased significantly compared to the control group (P <0.05). The IVTD, IVTDDM and IVOMD values of the barley, vetch and safflower grubs were also increased (P <0.05). Changes in the value of IVNDFD were not significant. When the result and literature are evaluated, it is concluded that plantain extract has an effect on the activities of rumen microorganisms and thus on the digestion of feed. Studies should be done to determine the secondary components found in the structure of the Plantain, the biologically active substances, to resolve which ones are passed to the extracts and to be effective in the rumen.
