Abstract (EN)
The concept of boundary, which we encounter frequently in design education and architectural practice, represents a situation that separates one from another; barriers standing between two different conditions, places or states. At the same time these boundaries work as dynamic intersections, which exist at all levels and scales of our life and daily urban experience. This concept indicates primarily division and separation but on the other hand, generates different intersections, and connections. In order to understand these new boundaries of today, it is important to follow the process of different approaches on this notion with the motives and effects. This research aims; understanding the nature of boundary concept with all the oppositions and dualities that notion embodies, exploring other concepts that has been discussed over boundaries, discovering changes of approach on boundary concept in an architectural and urban scale, and interpret boundaries of today's city with all these approaches on the example of Istanbul.
