Abstract (EN)
The most important cause of morbidity and mortality in ESRD is atherosclerosis and CVD. This elevation in CVD risk is has not been only explained with traditional risk factors but also with nontraditional risk factors such as chronic hypervolemia, anemia, calcum-phosphorus metabolism disorders, hyperhomocysteinemia, and microinflammatory status associated with increased oxidative stress. ESRD patients are suffered from enhanced OS because of dialysis process, dialysate solutions, dialysis membrane, immun system activators, and other pharmacoligical treatments beside primary renal disease. The negative effects of OS on occuring atherosclerosis among these patients have been shown. In recent study, it was aimed that to compare the effects of Losartan and Nebivolol on oxidative stress parameters, TOS, OSI, TAC, and SOD, among hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. 35 patients in Losartan group, and 36 patients in Nebivolol group were followed up for a period of 6 months. Statistically significant differences were found in TOS, and OSI as pro-oxidants, and TAC, and SOD as anti-oxidants in comparing patients with healthy controls (p=0.002, p=0.005, p=0.002, p<0.001, respectively). In Losartan group, while TAC elevated (p<0.001), OSI decreased (p<0.001) significantly. No statistically significance waws found in TOS and SOD (p=0.272, p=0.404 respectively). In Nebivolol group, while TAC elevated significantly (p<0.001), TOS and OSI decreased (p=0.019 and p<0.001, respectively) but there was no statistically significat change in SOD levels (p=0.087). No statistical significance was found between Losartan and Nebivolol in blood pressure, TAC, TOS, OSI, and SOD levels of patients (p=0.574, p=0.696, p=0.586, p=0.534 respectively). In conclusion; There was no statistically significance between the effects of Losartan and Nebivolol on TAC, TOS, OSI, and erythrocyte SOD, the OS parameters. But when the groups were evaluated in themselves the positive effects of Nebivolol on OS were better than Losartan.
