Development of problem solving skills in social studies

Objective of this research is; to investigate the effects of learning by problem solving methodin social studies at students academical success and attitude to the course; also to suggestproposals in order to develop students learning by problem solving method using obtaineddata.In the research; literature about the case has been covered and learning materials,questionnaire and attitude scale has been prepared. The study was conducted in EskişehirÇağfen Collage; with 5th grade students in 2005-2006 spring semester.After statistical analysis in this research, the results were obtained. It?s seen that, studentshave positive attitude to learning by problem solving method in social studies.Students academical success had a higher value according to questionnaire and students had apositive attitude to team learning. Students characterised learning with problem solvingmethod in social studies as entertaining.
