Tourism perception of the teacher candidates of social

In this study, it is aimed to determine the perception level of Teacher Candidates of Social Studies about tourism's economic, social and environmental effects and the value of tourism, its social and environmental impact on the economic development of the country and the preference of people to live around the regions where tourism is intensively done. The study is designed mixed system, which is compared with using quantitative and qualitative data together. 645 Social Studies Teacher Candidates, who study in Kastamonu, Ahi Evran and Akdeniz University, compose the quantitative study group of the research. The qualitative study group is composed by 40 volunteers of Social Studies Teacher Candidates, who keep on studying in Kastamonu University where the quantitative data is collected. For collecting quantitative data, Tourism Perception Survey and Personal Information Form are used; for collecting qualitative data, half-structured interview form developed by researcher is used. While quantitative data is interpreted by using SPSS 20 package program, qualitative data is interpreted through making content analysis of the interview record. In the analysis of the data, average and standard deviation were used. It is benefited from tests of Kay-Kare for analyzing data Teacher Candidates of Social Studies about tourism perceptions; gender, class of residence, place of residence, family income status. In the half-structured interviews with Social Studies Teacher Candidates, the impact of tourism on economic development of countries, socio-cultural and environmental effects of tourism, and the choice of people to live in city or area, in which tourism is done, is studied to be determined. At the end of the content analysis of interview, findings obtained are handled with themes and interpreted. It is determined that the Teacher Candidates of Social Studies' university, gender, class they keep, place they live, family income case, mother's work case, father's job and choice of domestic or foreign tourist is effective on their perception level over the economic, social and environmental impacts. Among the qualitative results of the research, it is concluded that tourism, commonly, supplies additional income to local public, improves accommodation, transportation and similar service sector in city, facilitates employment and makes the price of house and land in city increased. Social Studies Teacher Candidates state that tourism introduces our culture and people, and creates a positive idea about city; but it causes moral and religious degeneration in people. About the effects on the natural environment, tourism causes environmental pollution and more consumption of natural resources. It supplies the protection of natural beauties, historical buildings, local architecture and cuisine culture.
