Examination of social protection policies for the elderly in the context of socio-economic rights in terms of selected European Union countries and Turkey

Elderly individuals; It constitutes an important part of the society that has many problems such as economic, physiological, psychological and care in the life process. All human rights are also valid and accepted for the elderly. However, just like other individuals who need special protection, the unique rights of the elderly and the absence of a contract based on them directly make the problems they face inextricable. The aim of this study is to raise awareness, raise awareness about rights and question the applicability of policies by evaluating the policies that can be a solution to the problems faced by the elderly within the framework of their socio-economic rights as human beings. In the study, the literature review qualitative research method regarding the social protection policies created and developed for the elderly was used. In order to achieve the aim of the study, social protection policies for the elderly in selected European Union (EU) countries and Turkey in the context of welfare models have been tried to be evaluated within the framework of universal socio-economic rights. In this respect, socio-economic rights are one of the issues that need to be taken into consideration in order to protect the elderly. The negative perception created by the demographic transformation experienced in selected EU countries and Turkey can be turned into an opportunity with quality and applicable policies. The fact that the policies created in this framework are based on social inclusion and that they are presented in the context of strengthened socio-economic rights will prepare the environment for the elderly to continue their lives in an active and healthy way. It is understood that the policies vary according to the welfare model represented by the countries, and in addition to this, they have quality quality and increased quantity at the level of value and importance given to socio-economic rights and the elderly.
