Abstract (EN)

Recently orthognathic surgical procedures have an increased popularity and importance in oral and maxillofacial surgery and segmental osteotomies are considered as a common technique in orthognathic surgery. It seems to be a problem that the defects due to osteotomies have to be urgently healed and segments must become functional as soon as possible. Although the lack of datas related guided bone regeneration in segmental osteotomies revealed by the literature. In this study, healing modalities of the defects due to segmental osteotomies which were treated by either spongiosa block grafts and Fascia Lata or spongiosa blocks and Dura Mater utilized together evaluated histopathologically. 6 beagle dogs were used in the study and 12 standardised segmental osteotomies performed in dogs mandible. The defects were divided into 3 groups as 4. weeks, 8.weeks and 12 weeks. Each group has 4 segmental defects. One of each four defects assesed as control and the others received solvent dehidrated spongiosa block graft and sealed by Fascia Lata or Dura Mater. The animals sacrified at the end of the experimental period. Histopathologically findings showed no hypersensitivity reactions occured and all the graft materials well tolerated by the surrounded tissue. There were no excessive inflammatory reactions in all groups. No significant difference was observed between the effects of the Fascia Lata and Dura Mater membranes. However, 12 weeks Fascia Lata group results have very slight priority on Dura Mater. Healing of the defects with bone graft was approximately as same as controls.
