The impact of psychological needs in sport on sport-specific goal commitment

The aim of this study is to understand sport-related psychological needs and sport goal commitment of sport science students and to examine how these needs affect goal commitment. It consists of 7 questions such as age, gender, grade level, department, income status, sports background and sports branch in order to reach the information of the participants. The first part of the study consisted of the personal information form developed by the researcher, the second part consisted of the Psychological Needs Status Scale in Sport (SPIDÖ) developed by Bhavsar (2020) and adapted into Turkish by Bülbül and Akyol (2020), and the Goal Commitment Scale (GCS) developed by Hollenbeck and Williams Klein (1989) as a 9-item scale and later revised by Klein Wesson, Hollenbeck, Wright, and DeShon (2001) as 5-item scale and adapted into Turkish by Şenel and Yıldız (2016). In our study, the data were analyzed according to the information obtained from the participants with the SPSS 25.0 package program according to the 95% confidence interval. In the distribution of the data, the kurtosis skewness coefficient was examined and it was seen that the data were not distributed between ±2 and it was determined that the data did not show normal distribution. In the analysis, frequency percentage calculations, Cronbach Alpha coefficient, Kruskal Wallis H, Man Witney U, Spearman Correlation analysis and analysis were performed. As a result, it was concluded that there is a moderately significant and positive relationship between goal commitment and psychological needs. KEYWORDS: Sport, Psychological Need, Goal Commitment
