Examination of sports sciences students' social appearance anxiety, life satisfaction and recreation benefits according to various variables: Niğde province example

This research was conducted to examine the social appearance anxiety, life satisfaction and recreational benefit levels of sports science students according to various variables. Study; It was designed in a quantitative research model and a scanning design was used. The universe of the research; Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Sports Sciences consists of students, and its sample consists of 360 students, 149 female and 211 male, studying at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Sports Sciences Faculty. As data collection tools; The Social Appearance Anxiety Inventory developed by Hart et al. (2008) and adapted to Turkish by Doğan (2010), Diener et al. (1985) and adapted into Turkish by Bekmezci and Mert (2013), and the Recreation Benefit Scale developed by Ho (2008) and retested by Confirmatory Factor Analysis by Akgül, Ertüzün, and Karakucuk (2018). SPSS 24 statistical program was used in the evaluation of the data. Descriptive statistics were made on the obtained data. According to the results obtained, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test, which are non-parametric tests, were applied for hypothesis tests. Spearman Correlation analyzes were performed for inferential statistics. In conclusion; There is a low negative correlation between the participants' total life satisfaction score and their social appearance anxiety total score, and a low positive correlation between their recreation benefit total scores and their life satisfaction total scores. It is seen that there is a low negative correlation between the total score of the participants' social appearance anxiety and the total recreational benefit score. No statistically significant difference was found in the analyzes made for the gender, department and age variables considered within the scope of the research.
