Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to determine the effects of sportive activity levels of Sports High School and Science High School students, on Bone Mineral Density, Body Compositions and Bone Development. For comparison, Sports High School students, whose courses? content includes more sportive activities, and Science High School students involved in relatively less sportive activities, were selected.A total of 59 individuals, with a mean age of 14,40+1,46 years, were included into the study. The first group consisted of Sports High School students(n=29) as study group, while the second group comprised Science High School Students (n=30) as controls.Antropometric measurements (height and weight) were performed with standart stadiometer device (Seca, Germany), with minimal clothing. Bone Mineral Density (BMD) measurements were made with bone densiometer instrument (DEXA, Hologic Discovery 4500 QDR, Waltham, USA), and hand-wrist x-ray radiographs with Roentgen (hoffman selector c) device. The parameters involving body composition such as Body Mass Index (BMI), Basal Metabolism Rate(BMR), Body Fat Rate (BFR), Body Lean Rate (BLR) and Total Body Water (TBW) were measured by Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA, Tanita BC 418) device. In addition, such characteristic properties as gender and age were obtained through inquiry method. In the study, the difference between experimental and control groups in terms of bone mineral density measurement results was found to be statistically significant (p<0.01), whereas there was no difference between the groups for body compositions (p>0.05). According to hand-wrist graphs of 22 subjects randomly selected from among the students, a significant difference was determined between Elazığ Kara Karakaya Sports High School and Diyarbakır Rekabet Kurumu Cumhuriyet Science High School students in terms of epiphysis growth plate, based on Yates Arranged Chi-square test (p=0.00).As a result of findings obtained, the effects of sportive actvities on the parameters such as Bone Mineral Density and Bone Epiphysis Growth Plate of the students attendng both schools were investigated and seen that sportive activities have favourable effects on the significance levels between the two groups.Key Words: Sports, Body Composition, Bone Mineral Density, High school students.
