Abstract (EN)

In this study, how the levels of aggression and the levels of the emphatic tendencies of secondary education students who do sports and who do not do sports are and whether they significantly undergo a change or not according to some variable components, is examined.Conducted in accordance with the relational survey model, to determine the levels of aggression of the students Kipler?s (1984) Aggressiveness Inventory and to clarify the emphatic levels of the students Emphatic Tendency Scale developed by Gökmen (1988) were used. The universe of the study contains the students who do and do not do sports in secondary schools in Istanbul Province, Bayrampaşa district during 2012-2013 educational year. The sample of the study is 400 students in total; 159 students who do sports and 241 students who do not do sports. For analyzing the data, in parametric distribution independent groups t test (independent sample t test) and One-Way Analysis of Variance (Anova) were used. When the ANOVA analysisare reliable, in homogenous variances Scheffe test and when the data is not homogenous Tamhane?s T2 test were used. Moreover, for non-parametric distributions Kruskall Wallis H test was used and when the Kruskall Wallis H analysis is reliable Mann Whitney-U test was used.According to the findings of the study, the emphatic tendencies, hostile aggressiveness, passive aggressiveness, assertiveness and general aggression scores of students who do sports are higher than the scores of the students who do not do sports. These results show that the aggressive behaviours of the students who do sports are lower whereas their emphatic tendencies are higher than the ones who do not do sports. It was determined that the relationship between the scores of the students who constitutes the sample group and the scores from the sub-levels of the aggressiveness scale are reliable. Furthermore, when the level of emphatic tendency increases, the levels of hostile aggressiveness, passive aggressiveness and general aggressiveness decrease whereas their assertiveness level decreases.According to the data gathered, it is found that the emphatic tendencies of the girls are higher yet their hostile aggressiveness, passive aggressiveness and overall aggressive behaviours are lower than the boys. The education level of mother does not make a sensible change in emphatic tendencies and aggressive behaviours both fort he students who do sports and who do not. The education level of father is not a determining factor in aggressive behaviours for both groups. Nevertheless, the emphatic skills of the students who do sports and whose fathers are graduated from elementary schools are lower regarding the students whose fathers were graduated from high schools or higher levels of education.
