Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, it is aimed to determine the effects of substituting cement with different proportions of asphaltite ash, which is obtained as a waste product from the combustion of Şırnak asphaltite coal, on the properties of concrete. Within the scope of the thesis, reference (ash-free) concrete samples were first prepared, and various experimental series were created by partially replacing cement with asphaltite ash at specific weight ratios. Several tests were conducted on samples stored under different curing conditions to evaluate their properties, such as unit weight, compressive strength, water absorption, and ultrasonic pulse velocity. Additionally, the internal structures of the concrete samples were examined using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), their mineralogical composition was analyzed through X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and their chemical composition was investigated via X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis. Asphaltite ash was used to replace cement at rates of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% in concrete production. Depending on the mix proportions, the concrete samples containing asphaltite ash and cured for 28 days exhibited unit weights ranging from 2,22 to 2,39 g/cm³, compressive strengths between 12,7 and 35,65 MPa, and water absorption by weight in the range of 3,79% to 7,79%. The findings of the thesis provide significant insights into the positive or negative effects of using asphaltite ash as a partial cement replacement on the properties of concrete and form a basis for future studies. The results of this study are considered important in terms of developing sustainable construction materials and reducing environmental impacts. The data obtained from the thesis are anticipated to contribute to the evaluation of asphaltite ash in terms of waste management and sustainable construction material production.
