The place of black money in crime economics and impacts on economy

The criminal economy is a value obtained through any illegal means but resulting from economic activity, and it encompasses a number of economic cause-and-effect relationships. The revenues obtained from illegal activities that constitute the subject of the criminal economy, referred to as dirty money, are present in economies today in amounts that cannot be ignored. However, since these revenues are not incorporated into national economies through legal channels, they cannot be a sustainable input for economies and will create problems that bring new economic issues and legal violations. In this respect, examining the issue of dirty money is important for sustainable economic growth and development. In this thesis, crime, the criminal economy, and the sphere of the criminal economy are explained, the definition and theoretical framework of money laundering in this economy are determined, money laundering methods and the effects of money laundering on the economy are explained through macroeconomic indicators, and the aim is to explain that money laundering has negative effects on sustainable economies. Theoretical and official information has been used in the study. The first section of the study explains crime, the criminal economy, and the sources of the criminal economy; the second section focuses on the definition of black money within the criminal economy, its sources, laundering methods, and its status in legal regulations; and the third section explains the effects of black money on the economy and methods of combating black money. The study concludes with the results obtained, evaluations based on these results, and recommendations for combating money laundering.
