Abstract (EN)
Crime, guilt, and punishment have been significant topics throughout history, examined through disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and social work. Juvenile delinquency has become a major issue, especially with industrialization, urbanization, migration, population growth, unemployment, changes in family structure, and socio-cultural shifts. Juvenile delinquency is more related to family and environmental factors rather than legal aspects. This study aims to determine the role of families in children's involvement in crime. It explores the perspectives of families whose children have been involved in criminal activities. The research was conducted on juveniles with social investigation reports from Rize Courthouse's criminal courts. In-depth interviews were held with 12 mothers and 12 fathers in their homes, using a voice recorder. A qualitative research method was used to gather data through social investigation reports and semi-structured interview forms. The findings indicate that parental perception of their children and family influence play a crucial role in juvenile delinquency. Most participating families live in low socio-economic areas of Rize. The study revealed that fathers were more likely to use violence against their children, and parents identified lack of education and negative social environment as key causes of crime. Additionally, parents reported that children continued criminal behavior after their first offense, with no significant improvement. The research concluded that the absence of role models, disengagement from education, family inadequacy, and negative environmental influences contribute to juvenile delinquency.
