Wahdat al- wujud effects in Sultan Memdûh Tillovî's (Mahzenu'l- Esrâr)

The theory of wahdat al- wujud, which is one of the concepts that kept on growing up and developing within Sufi tradition has been examined by many studies and keeps on holding an important place in Sufi doctrine. The desire of Sufis to reveal their existence through poetry and the process of understanding this existence in their poems has different forms in different periods. When we look at the content of Ottoman poetry tradition, which contains these differences, the reflections of Sufi culture are frequently encountered in different written works. In this tradition, including Sufi poetry, the influence of Ibn al-Arabi's views holds an important place. Sultan Memdûh Tillovî, who is the subject of our work with his Sufi personality, appears as a well-known figure of his era. With the emergence of wahdat al- wujud doctrine in his poems as an embodiment, it has been included in Ottoman poetry tradition and Sufi-poet classification. When the work called Mahzenu'l-esrâr, the subject of our study, is examined in it's entirety, it is noticable that the idea of wahdat al-wujud, which was processed by the author, was kneaded with the love of Allah. The author's perception of wahdat al-wujud, which sets an example for the functioning of the belief of oneness, is formed in the style of "affection and love" of Mevlânâ. In Sultan Memduh's book, Mahzenu'l-esrâr, concepts such as vahdet-i wujud, the existence of God and the degree of divinity, the relationship between God and the realm, a'yân-ı sâbite, transfiguration-divine names, and velâyet are discussed and these concepts are aslo being emphasized. In addition to this, subjects which reflect the understanding of knowledge and ingenuity, such as ways of obtaining knowledge, inspiration, miracles, discovery, science, pleasure and suspicion, are also frequently reflected upon. Sultan Memduh, rather than merely revealing the idea of vahdet in Ibnu'l-Arabi's theory, has revealed his feelings and emotions formed by the effect of vahdet in divan poetry with personal symbols and a deep expressionism. In this study, being followed by related, already well-known information and knowledge, an integrity has been established and the insight on wahdat al-wujûd has been represented within it's essentials.
