Review of sustainable denim production processes and functional clothing collection proposal with ecological denim

Considering today's environmental problems, sustainability has taken its place in all production systems. The second most polluting sector in the world is the textile industry. In this study, a functional clothing collection was prepared with sustainable denim production techniques. For this purpose, firstly, the issue of sustainability in the denim sector was examined and sustainability practices in all dry and wet processes of denim and design processes were included. The content was researched using national and international literature, and also Eroğlu Giyim San. Tic. The data of the research were obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted in the production and design units of A.Ş. In line with the data obtained, the place of denim in sustainability studies in the field of clothing was examined. The subject of unisex clothing and functional clothing design, which is among today's sustainable clothing trends, was put into practice with the information obtained from the literature reviewed and based on the idea of a unisex capsule denim wardrobe, 9 pieces of multi-functional denim clothing were designed with 27 usage alternatives and Eroğlu Giyim San. Tic. It was produced with the support of A.Ş. Since a holistic sustainability approach is applied in production, all processes, accessories and fabrics are selected from sustainable alternatives. Thus sustainability; It is considered as a whole, including raw materials, production, accessories, use and post-user. Sustainability reports were created during the collection production systems and added to the study as data along with all processes. The average carbon footprint spent for a garment is 0.19 KgCO2 / garment, and the total carbon footprint is calculated as 2.49 KgCO2 / garment.
