Evaluation of leed certified hotel projects in İstanbul within the scope of sustainable tourism structures

The main axis of the study is the tourism sector in Istanbul and the sustainable tourism structures in Istanbul. In this context, all the LEED certified hotel projects under the scope of sustainable hotel constructions in Istanbul have been examined by acting as the main staple of the industry. In the first part of the thesis study which consists of five chapters, the subject of the research and the reasons for the study are explained. The aims of the thesis work are mentioned and the methods used in the research are explained. In the second part of the study, the concept of sustainability and the concept of sustainable architecture are defined and the historical development of sustainability is examined and sustainable architectural principles are explained. In the third chapter, tourism is defined and tourism types are examined. The aim was to provide sustainability in the tourism sector and information on tourism principles, targets, indicators and planning. This section examines the historical development and classification of hotel constructions and sets out criteria for ensuring the sustainability of hotel projects as part of sustainable architectural principles and these criteria are explained by examples of sustainable hotels from around the world. In the fourth chapter, tourism and alternative tourism varieties are explained in Istanbul and the possibilities offered by Istanbul in terms of tourism are emphasized. This section examines the hotels with LEED certification according to all grades within the scope of sustainable hotel projects in Istanbul. In the conclusion section, which is the fifth chapter of the workshop, there are conclusions about the design criteria of sustainable hotel projects in Istanbul and the sustainability of tourism in Istanbul as a result of the studies conducted with the aim of evaluating the projects of LEED certified hotels in Istanbul within the scope of sustainable tourism.
