Abstract (EN)

Permanent magnet synchronous motors are widely used in high performance drive applications for its advantages such as high power density, high efficiency, high torque to inertia ratio, smaller size and fast dynamic response. In order to use permanent magnet synchronous motors with high efficiency in high precision applications, absolute position and speed information have to be obtained. For this purpose, position and speed sensors are generally used. Due to disadvantages of these sensors such as bigger motor size and higher cost, recently researches are focused on sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor. In this thesis, position and speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor are achieved first with sensor and second without sensor. In sensored position and speed control, PWM based control technique is used. In sensorless position and speed control, model reference adaptive controller system and sliding mode observer methods, which are generally used in middle and high speed applications, are achieved. Sensored and sensorless models of the permanent magnet synchronous motor are simulated in Matlab/Simulink. According to the simulation results, dynamic response of the system is quite fast in sensored control. In sensorless control, it is observed that model reference adaptive control based model has a better dynamic response and a higher performance than sliding mode observer based model.
