Abstract (EN)
For reaching the most efficient results for drilling and blasting processes, geological conditions in other terms rock mass properties should be considered and a good blasting design should be accomplished. It is realized that discontinuity affects the efficiency of blasting, and in times when sometimes it decreases the energy of the blasting, it diverts the energy in different directions, and thus causing the blasted the rock mass to be in big rock blocks. In such conditions, there may be a need for block holding which will cause extra cost. By taking this condition into account before the design of the blasting, some features of rock like the gap between discontinuity or the filling material, its location, and the frequency should be analyzed by means of field research. The features of discontinuity, locations and directions affect features like deformations, strength, permeability etc. of rock masses in other terms it considerably affects the applications of rock engineering. For this purpose, it is always required to keep a record of the details for the discontinuities. In order to study the in-situ affects of the discontinuities on the efficiency of blasting, research has been made on the fields of Çimentaş İzmir Cement Factory limestone quarry. By not making any changes in the parameters of blasting which has been used so far, it is attempted to set up a relation between the measures of discontinuity on the excavation face and the distribution of the fragmentation sizes after the blasting. In the scope of this thesis, there will be sights and suggestions upon the importance for increasing the efficiency of the discontinuities while composing blasting designs in open pit mining.
