Abstract (EN)
Chemical agents are among the weapons of mass destruction used throughout history in wars and conflicts, causing significant devastation due to their effects. Nerve agents, in particular, are among the most dangerous chemicals, affecting the human nervous system and producing rapid and lethal consequences. Sarin, one of the most notable of these agents, is a colorless, odorless, and highly toxic compound. It can rapidly penetrate the human body through inhalation or contact, causing irreversible effects on the central nervous system within seconds. The lethal effects of sarin nerve agent on human health and its potential for uncontrolled spread make such chemical agent attacks a threat not only to the target region but also to neighboring regions. In this thesis, a scenario of a possible sarin gas attack in the rural Aleppo region of Syria was constructed, and the potential effects of this attack were simulated on the border with Hatay province in Türkiye. Based on the simulation results, the impacts in the border districts of Reyhanlı, Antakya city center, and İskenderun were examined, and the results were discussed.
