Abstract (EN)
This thesis examines how Sylvia Plath's psychological struggles and drive for success integrate with themes of identity search, gender roles, and feminism in her works, within the historical framework of feminism. Themes such as identity crises, gender inequality, and the experience of womanhood, frequently encountered in Plath's writings, bear traces of both her personal life and the societal structure of her time. Particularly, the author's only novel, The Bell Jar, stands out as a text where these themes are deeply reflected; the connection Plath established with feminist thought is clearly evident in her works. Family types, examined through the lens of feminism, reveal striking similarities between the author's own family and the family of Esther Greenwood, the protagonist of The Bell Jar. In this context, the personal challenges and societal pressures Plath faced played a significant role in the emergence of a feminist perspective in her work. Her intense pressures and internal conflicts profoundly affected both her personal and artistic life, with her inability to accept the desire to be better and the emotional tensions it created becoming central elements of her psychological world. Sylvia Plath's personal and psychological struggles were shaped by literary language and feminist discourses, and deeply reflected in her works. In this framework, Plath's life and emotional conflicts, and their impact on her literary production, have been examined; specifically, in The Bell Jar, the protagonist's quest for identity, her stance on gender roles, and the author's approach to sexuality and virginity have been explored, and the impact of these themes on her works has been analyzed.
