An analysis of Tadeusz Borowski's story Proszę Państwa do Gazu (This Way For The Gas Ladies and Gentlemen) in the context of secondary language

In this study, Proszę Państwa Do Gazu (This Way For The Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen) by Tadeusz Borowski, a Polish writer known for his camp stories, is evaluated in the context of indirect translation. In the past, this story has been translated into Turkish both German and English, since Polish is not a language in the central culture. In this context, the translation of Borowski's story, Proszę Państwa Do Gazu (This Way For The Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen), in which the translator Mete Tunçay uses English as the source text as stated in the foreword of the book containing the stories, and the direct translation of the story by Seda Köycü are comparatively analyzed in the light of various theories and approaches in the theoretical framework of our study, especially Gideon Toury's descriptive translation theory. The first chapter of our study, which consists of three main sections, focus on Borowski's personal and literary and the concentration camp narrative anda provides information on these subjects. In the second chapter, the third chapter, in which the translations are analyzed comparatively, deals with issues that we think will help to form a theoratical framework. This section includes information on the theories of translation studies and translation studies, approaches to indirect translation, translation criticism and translation criticism theories of various researchers. In the third chapter, a comparative analysis of the translations of the original text and selected portions of its translations is scrutinized in the light of the theories in the second chapter of the study.
