The place in the city image of the urban immediate works which the historical silk road left on Baku Icharishahar and its environment

Urban structure, which expresses characteristics related to urban structure, is defined as a living organism. Traditions, national values, social and spatial needs are represented in the city and become factors influencing and directing human life. In general, the city is a residential area where various social groups are formed, where the artificial environment dominates the natural surroundings and where they continue their lives in accordance with the rules of urban life. These settlement areas assumed different socio-economic functions in different periods of the history, and so the concept of city adapted to such functional change and in each period it has gained a dynamic character with different content. The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase mentions about the perception, image, environmental image, cities, features, development process, formation of historical Silk Road, socio-economic effects left on Azerbaijan, transformation of settlement systems in Azerbaijan to cities and historical development process of Baku city based on the literature search. And the second phase includes field study based on city image. İçerişehir (literally translated as Inner city) and its surrounding was investigated in detail and an urban image components map was issued for trained observers for İçerişehir and its surrounding and the structures remaining from the Historical Silk Road were collected. Then, interviews were made with the people living in the Bakü city center and according to the results coming out of this interviews, the city image map of Baku was arranged. In the conclusion section, the results of the spatial analyses were set forth in line with the interviews made with the users in relation to the study area, and the findings obtained about Baku and its surrounding were evaluated in the context of city image. Despite the big historical and political importance which it has, during the interview, the value of the structures and places mentioned by only a few people was revealed in a more comprehensive way in this chapter. Then, the structures in the historical Silk Way and its vicinity which were discovered and not discovered as a result of the analyses of the trainer observers were examined in terms of plan, design and history, and the extent to which these structures created an image in the minds of people or forgotten completely was evaluated as a finding.
