Reproductive biology of the white-throated robin (irania gutturalis)

This study was conducted to investigate the breeding biology of the White-throated Robin (Irania gutturalis), one of the elements of the avifauna of Türkiye. The research was carried out in Yahyalı district of Kayseri province, one of the breeding areas of the species in the country, during the breeding season (April–July) of 2024 and 2025, through systematic field observations. It was determined that the species arrived at the study area on 12 April in 2024 and on 10 April in 2025. During this period, courtship behavior, mate selection, nest-site selection, and nest building were recorded. The first eggs were observed on 27 April in 2024 and on 1 May in 2025. The mean clutch size per nest was calculated as 4.22 ± 0.80 in 2024 and 3.90 ± 1.24 in 2025. Breeding success, according to the apparent nest success model, was 67.65% in 2024 and 45.45% in 2025; and according to the Mayfield method, 46.81% in 2024 and 37.59% in 2025. The predation rate was 46.2% in 2024 and 53.6% in 2025. The hatching success rate was 65.13% in 2024 and 60.96% in 2025. The incubation period lasted 13.38 ± 1.06 days in 2024 and 13.17 ± 0.38 days in 2025, while the nestling period was observed to be 9.04 ± 0.77 days in 2024 and 9.40 ± 1.14 days in 2025.
