Comparison of student success according to various variables at transportational education centers

The purpose of the study was to define the effect of transportational education practice on academic success of primary school students. The study was modelled as a relational survey. The population of the study consists of 4098 students attending fifteen transportational primary schools in Antalya province in the academic year of 2008-2009. The data obtained 851 primary school students was evaluated in the study.The data related to students? academic success levels were collected from attendance lists, transcripts, achievement certificates and high school entrance exam results of students. Percentage, frequency, t-test, one-way ANOVA for independent samples, and in case the assumptions of parametric tests were not satisfied, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H tests were used to analyse the data.As the result of the study, resident primary students were more successful then transported primary students. Transported male students were the most unsuccessful group, while resident female students were the most successful group. Transporting of students made a significant effect an academic success of fourth and eighth grade students. High school entrance exam results of sixth and seventh grade students were not differentiated according to transporting of students. Academic achievements of primary students that are being transported were not differentiated according to distance of their settlement places to central transporting school.Key Words: Transportational Education, Central Transporting School, Academic Success
