Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to determine the residues of organochlorine pesticide (OCP) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which are permanent organic pollutants (POPs) in the fish collected from Tekirdag coastal region. The share of aquatic products in Tekirdag's gross agricultural production was around 1%. In 2001, sea fishing was contributed to Tekirdag economy by 2.8 trillion TL. It is of great importance to avoid unconscious and uncontrolled pesticides in these periods when fish consumption is increasing in terms of environment and human health. In recent years, food security, which has been on our agenda, is under control by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), the WHO (World Health Organization), the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) and the EU countries. As a result of the literature research, no studies have been found about determination of OCP and PAH residues in fish in Tekirdag region. In this context, this thesis is an original study which is presented to the literature for the first time. 4 different types of 4 different stations in the coastal strip in 2018 in the spring season 4 different types of bottom fish; flounder, haddock, shark, angler fish samples were collected. Each collected fish sample was subjected to Soxhlet extrusion with a Hexane: Acetone (1: 1) solution and then the organic phase was purified by chromatography. In the purified samples, the OCP and PAH residue analyzes were performed using GC-EDC and GC-MS devices. According to the results, OCP and PAH residues detected in 4 different fish species were compared with FAO / WHO and Turkish Food Codex (TGB), Maximum Residual Limit (MRL) values and found values were found to be below MRL values.
